So sweet that it's sick, so dope it's disgustin’...

if you go to school in a castle you might get to go on a kindergarten graduation trip to JAPAN.
and if you work in a school that is a castle the same is true.

i will dream japanese dreams during nap time today.

to remember

  • forgiveness
  • guys really do mature slower than girls
  • better to have loved, better to love, always
  • not everyone can always give you want you need, and not always because they don't want to
  • little gestures of love and kindness go a long way
  • endorphins are the best drugs
  • sunshine is magic

for emily

yesterday evening was spent with my lovely friend sarah
we perched ourselves atop her balcony twenty two floors in the sky
and saw the whole city.
i looked left and saw the metropolis of kaohsiung, the 85 building and bright lights dancing,
yonder was the dark expanse of the ocean and the dull lights of sleeping boats,
as i moved right we saw fireworks,
we're all always celebrating here.
cityscape gave way to mountains and temples and
in front of it all was the love river
around which trains kept passing in the night
and making me feel lucky like a little kid.

we listened to old beats and tried out new ones
and drank a tall asian beer
and laughed harder than i've laughed in a long long time.

the most unexpected best.

Obama obama obamaa

"We can choose to go back to the same top-down policies that got us into this mess, or you can choose to move us forward with the policies that have been getting us out of this mess.

You can choose to go back to a foreign policy that gets us into wars with no plan for getting out, or you can help move us forward and end the Afghan war responsibly and bring our troops home, and focus on the terrorists who were going to attack us.

You can choose to turn back the clock 50 years for women and for immigrants and for gays and for lesbians—or you can stand up and say, we want to move forward. We believe in the country where no matter who you are, or what you look like, or where you come from, or who you love, you can make it if you try.
" —President Obama in Iowa today

pilates makes me giggly

this probably isn't as funny as it is to me right now...
if you didn’t know stuff about humans you would think they get mad at the weirdest stuff
like one human raises their thumb to another human
that’s good, humans like that
one human raises their middle finger to another human
humans do NOT LIKE THAT
humans think that is a BAD FINGER
don’t you DARE raise that specific finger at me
any other finger is ok just not that one

   Bukowski

i woke up with glitter in my bed.

friday was my last day of work! SO EXCITING. went to the going away dinner with a whiskey flask in my purse and em and i had a lovely send off that ended with photoshoots in the street followed by cheesecake in bed.

saturday was mellow and chilled out and i got a facial and went for lunch. we made sure to break out into random cheers of joy at various times throughout the day. freeeedom.

we got all dolled up in white and went to sensation. a rave meets cirque de soleil type of party thrown my heineken. its a tour of djs and performers that travel to different cities in the world. saturday was their first time in asia and their last show on this tour. it was beyond anything ive ever experienced. known as the ocean of white just seeing 8000 people dressed in white was stunning enough. when we walked inside my mind was blown. a giant center console for the djs to perform greeted us and from the sides shot two long walkways for the performers. girls walked in time to the beats blowing bubbles, ninjas fell from the ceilings with wings made of sparklers, canons shot sparkly paper that fell on us like snow. at one point during mr.whites set, all the white bracelets they had given us lit up simultaneously in time to the music. it was ahmaaazing. huge, glowing beach balls bounced around and fountains shot up from the stages. you could actually hear the water somehow over the roar of the people and the music. so so cool. we danced for hours and hours and hours and then turned down offers for after parties and strolled home at 630am. what a night.

yesterday we slept late, ordered pizza, went shopping, made appointments to get tattoos, went for dinner on a patio and then cleaned and puttered at home. ali and i debated between the Philippines and malaysia for chinese new year and em and i watched a romantic indie film that inevitably made me feel emo and write letters and scribbles and finish yet another asian inspired journal this year.

im excited for the new job but really looking forward to chilling out and getting organised over the next few days.

this life is but a dream

sometimes late at night i listen to anis mojgani alone in my bed and die with a smile

happy friday

came down from my last class to find a slice of tiramisu cake on my desk, a gift from lovely sarah for my birthday. so thoughtful. i felt special.

actually found myself a little teary eyed at the close of my last class after telling them i was leaving. they were sad. and that made me [partially thrilled, but also] sad too. we took pictures and hugged and i ate cake and it was a good friday night.

em and i sauntered home and sarah brought us a beer and i changed into a blue dress and we doubled on our scooters downtown to our favorite fish market. we met with a bunch of friends and ate and drank and frolicked. it was fun, i enjoyed it.

around 1230 we peaked so rode home and now are in bed with the leftover cake, wine, incense, baked beans in tomato sauce [i had a craving] and a highly anticipated episode of dawsons creek. nostalgia is golden.

off to jalashuay, or paradise, tomorrow morning for a weekend of swimming, champagne, dinner in secret gardens, bon fires and fireworks.

ah twenty seven,
i think you and i are going to get along just fine.

Friday, September 21, 2012

today was the day i had to tell two of my classes i would be leaving and they would have a new teacher as of october 1st.

i always liked september

i may be missing out on crunchy leaves but an extended summer has its benefits.
lately:

my one year anniversary of island life passed. we acknowledged the day quietly and contemplatively and celebrated the evening with slow walks, a big dinner, and funny n eye opening reminiscing. the latest eve and next day was brought in over a bottle of rum [we paper, scissor, stoned to decide between gin, rum, or vodka. paper lost.] and animated banter under the light bulb of my balcony.

we may have figured out our whole lives. or maybe not. its all a matter of perspective i suppose.

yoga in the park on thursday evenings has become a regular thing and fuels so many good feelings and such nice strolls through the park afterwards and deep sleeps much later.

9 days left in my contract.

this past weekend a bunch of us rented a giant, black van and embarked on a road trip up north of the island to Sunmoon Lake. Its the biggest body of freshwater in Taiwan and also, it turns out, a charming little town on the water. we camped illegally under a bridge. yes, like trolls. after setting up our tents we trudged back up the hill and climbed back into the van to head into town to explore. as we turned out onto the road we bore witness to a woman falling off her bicycle without a helmet and slamming into the pavement. this is a curvy road in the mountains and where she fell was just after a turn which people drive too quickly around more often than not. without thinking we parked the van to block her and direct traffic to the other lane keeping her at least safe from other cars. without going into many details, it was a scary scene. her face was swelling quickly and already looked deformed. a lot of blood was coming from the back of her head and she was gargling on blood. emily almost passed out. i threw up. and the rest of us directed traffic and tried to keep her calm until the ambulance came. it was terrible. the kind of thing thats hard to shake off. i could never be a nurse but im so impressed and grateful that my little sister is. kudos to her bravery.
the ambulance came and we let them take over. needless to say, it was a quiet drive the rest of the way into town. i hope she's okay, but ill never know for sure. i think she is though.

that evening we feasted on fresh seafood and other taiwanese delicacies then wandered up to an outdoor patio overlooking the lake and marina and sipped peach margaritas while colorful fireworks illustrated the sky. it was fun and the conversation was really good. i met some new people and made some new friends and it was invigorating to hang out with new, cool people.oh, and i even met a couple from ottawa. the world gets smaller the longer i stay away.

we headed back under the bridge and watched american boys try to start a fire. no dice. i sipped two beers, made some jokes, listened to some funny stories and headed to sleep early. i awoke in the middle of the night having to pee and stepped outside of the tent and looked up. all of the stars in the land were shining their brightest. i swear. it was magical. i actually gasped and tripped and then giggled. so happy i woke up. :)

we were up eaaaaaaaaaaarly to register for the swim. every year there is a swimming carnival at sunmoon and thousands, i mean like 28 000 people swim across this lake in the mountains. and we did it. wearing the swim caps they forced upon us and clutching out baywatch worthy floaties we swam three kilometers and two hundred meters across the lake. it was unreal. i felt like superwoman climbing out on the other side. i got a fancy little certificate and everything. and also, the freshest and most tender sunburn EVER. so terrible. i curse the high cut of my american apparel bathing suit for exposing so much of my bootie. it hurts to sit. to lie. to teach when my little bees climb on me.

tonight, we started our first pilates class. fantastic. minus the sunburn rubbing all over the mat, it felt great.

super pumped on my entire life, it feels nice.

now off to sleep covered in aloe,
xx

post script

ps.

if you are my sister,

or answer [willingly, or unwillingly] to the name bozieboo.

CALL ME.
much to discuss.

and also, I LOVE YOU like madness.
what a day.

woke up early to skype with christine but she was tardy as f*ck so i did my other business from bed while i patiently awaited her arrival; dealing with the possible bankrupcy of our landlord, arranging reiki for wade, and applying for a dreamy job with an international school for a kindergarten position.

ive had my eye on this school all year. first of all, it looks like a castle and its in the mountains, so thats just lovely. secondly, its got a montessori philosophy of teaching and learning and looks like a place that i would blend in perfectly with. i worked hard on my resume and wrote a charming and professional cover letter and sent it off.

skyped with christine. always funny and rejuvenating for me. perfect for before work.

after work tonight i headed straight to the park with em to do two hours of yoga by the water with mayna. so, so great. the moon was really big and bright and the water lended itself as a delightful soundtrack.

just came home and poured a class of wine and decided to check my email between reading in bed. and...

i have an interview at the castle!

so.so.excited.

i am a happy girl.

Saigon, Vietnam

photos n journals of 21 days in vietnam and cambodia:
part 1.

07/22/12 evening 1. Saigon, Vietnam
sitting at the end of our first dinner. tom is the sweetest waiter and we've all developed definite crushes throughout these five courses. vietnamese men have smiles to die for. in the end, 8 drinks and 5 dishes cost us $19 cdn or 400 000 dong. unreal. this place makes taiwan look expensive.

after just the right amount of food and drink we found spas and kelly and i got facials and waxes for 10 cdn. and the wax smelt like popcorn. perfect.

we met back up wtih em and al at a previously agreed upon bar with a patio that looked intriguing. it ended up being fantastic. they played great music. 80s and 90s songs that make you instantly happy and you cant help but dance in your seat. or i cant help it at least.

oh, and boys. everywhere.
we're falling in love all over this city.

home by midnight but not before stopping for a veggie n cheese baguette for a dollar. excellent.

07/23/12 day 2 Saigon, Vietnam
spent the day exploring the mekong delta. such a dream.

took a boat to Unicorn Island..i knew such a place existed beyond my dream life.
Our dreamy tour guide Luke told us all that
snake wine is good for...downstairs.
banana wine for aches and paints.
rice wine, for fun.

we tasted all three.

ali, kelly, emily, luke and i floated down the mekong river in a tiny long boat wearing triangle hats. we had to keep our hands inside the boat to save our limbs from crocodiles which run rampant in the waters there. i talk with my hands so this was very difficult for me. despite crocodiles the whole thing felt more like a dream than many of my own nighttime head films as of late.

later, we visited a beehive and drank honey tea, tasted royal jelly, and ate ginger and banana chips.

we visited an outdoor coconut candy making factory and ended with a delicious traditional vietnamese lunch with 888 [pronounced bah bah bah] beer.

travelled home by boat and watched the sunset over the water while children waved to us from their boat homes and finally we fell asleep in the heat and woke up at the dock to a handful of sailors. perfect.
